Jeanne Tyson is a cinematographer who was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. Her family and home have been, and always will be a source of inspiration.
Jeanne started the MFA program for production and cinematography at UCLA in 2007. Throughout her career she was honored with awards from UCLA, the Motion Picture Association of America, and the Edie and Lew Wasserman Foundation. She had the privilege to work directly with mentor Stephen H. Burum, ASC through an internship offered to her by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts, and Sciences in 2009. Steve remains a mentor and friend to this day.
Jeanne completed production on her first feature film, Against the Grain, Directed by Elias Mael in January 2011. Her work on various productions, including features, shorts, and documentaries, has given her the opportunity to shoot not only in Los Angeles, but also in Germany, Alabama, Arkansas, and New York.
In 2011, Jeanne received the award for Best Cinematography at the UCLA Festival of New Creative Work for the short film Foot Soldier, Directed by Jon Crawford. This honor was accompanied by a grant from Panavision’s New Filmmaker Program for the project of her choice.
In addition to shooting a vast array of films, Jeanne has started her career in education at UCLA Extension. She is currently the instructor for the course, The Craft of the Cinematographer.
Jeanne completed production on her last feature, The Lovely Rejects, in November 2011 with Director Judy Phu. The film is currently in Post-Production.
Jeanne is currently finishing her UCLA thesis which will analyze how the technology of the DSLR has affected the role of the cinematographer. She is also in development with producer and sister, Elizabeth Tyson on two projects, a narrative feature and a feature documentary.
